Swiss skier Daniel Yule has sensationally won a slalom in the World Cup circuit in Chamonix. The 30-year-old Yule had qualified last for the second run and then started as the first skier with the best snow conditions.

Then the snow melted and conditions continued to deteriorate. Everyone gritted their teeth at Yule’s time of 1.36.24.

Olympic champion Clément Noël, also leader in the slalom World Cup standings, ultimately finished third at 0.18 seconds. The Swiss Loïc Meillard had to give up 0.16 seconds to Yule.

For the first time since 1978, the first two podium places in the slalom were occupied by Swiss. It was also a first that a skier who finished thirtieth in the first run still claimed the overall victory.
