In this case, rather than romantic comedy, we should talk about romantic melodrama, a definition that will not surprise viewers who have read David Nicholls’ book. If that’s not the case, chances are you’ve seen the film adaptation that was made with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess and therefore know that it’s not all roses and violets in this love story which lasts almost two decades.
