Sherida Spitse Calls for Better Conditions for Women’s Football in the Eredivisie

Anouk Hoogendijk recently visited De Toekomst, where Ajax plays its matches. The former international spoke with Ajax captain and OranjeLeeuwin Sherida Spitse about the state of women’s football.

Spitse knows that everything at Ajax is arranged down to the last detail, but that is not the case with every Eredivisie club. “We don’t have to work on the side because everyone has the minimum wage, but when I look at some other clubs…,” she says Soccernews. “Then that is a shock for me and it also makes me a bit angry. How is that possible? You don’t go to Albert Heijn just to work there for a travel allowance, do you?”

“I don’t think that is possible,” continues the record international of the OranjeLeeuwinnen. “It’s not that we’ve only been in business for two years, then I still understand. But we already started this Eredivisie in 2006,” said Spitse, who believes that young players should be able to develop in the Netherlands.

“That’s just not possible, because the facilities are not there,” she believes. “And I think that’s a shame. Because then (if the facilities were there, ed.) the level will increase. Then you get better competition and that’s what it’s all about in the end. To then also do better with the clubs in Europe We do that now as Ajax, but you also see that because investments are being made.”
