Seongnam City Opens Geumgok Park National Sports Center to Promote Active Lifestyles and Community Welfare

Seongnam City announced on the 13th that it will open the Geumgok Park National Sports Center (183-1 Jeongja-dong), a public sports facility where people can enjoy swimming, fitness, and table tennis in one place, on the 16th.

The opening ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on this day at the multi-purpose gymnasium on the second floor of the sports center with about 200 people in attendance, including local residents and Seongnam Mayor Shin Sang-jin.

The Geumgok Park National Sports Center was built with a total project cost of KRW 28.2 billion (including national funds of KRW 2.7 billion) over a period of 2 years and 6 months from June 2021 until recently, with 1 underground floor, 3 above-ground floors, and a total building area of ​​8,609㎡.

The first floor has a swimming pool with 25 meters in length and five lanes, the second floor has a gym and a multi-purpose gym where you can play badminton and table tennis, and the third floor has a program room for yoga and pilates.

Outside the sports center building, a separate artificial rock climbing wall is installed for climbing.

The parking lot is large enough to accommodate a total of 105 vehicles on the basement level (61 spaces) and the ground level (44 spaces).

The Seongnam Urban Development Corporation is in charge of operating the sports center.

The swimming pool, gym, and multi-purpose gym will be open free of charge from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday until the end of next month, during the pilot operation period.

Starting in April, it will switch to a paid service and operate 63 instructional programs (1,094 members) in 9 sports, including swimming, aquarobics, fitness, badminton, table tennis, and Pilates equipment.

The opening hours will also be changed to 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

A city official said, “With the opening of the Geumgok Park National Sports Center, the number of public sports facilities close to daily life in the region has increased to three, including the Hwang Saeul Park National Sports Center in Sunae-dong, Bundang-gu, and the Jungwon-gu Sports Center,” adding, “We will revitalize sports for daily life.” “It will improve the health and welfare of citizens,” he said.
