Senegalese Judo Federation Suspends Participation in International Competitions Due to Demolition of National Dojo

The Senegalese Judo Federation has decided to temporarily suspend its participation in international competitions. This option results, according to the press release from the federal body, from the demolition of the National Dojo Master Amara Dabo, both the headquarters and training center of the national teams. Which, according to him, had serious consequences for the race to qualify our judokas for the “Paris2024” Olympic Games and the preparation of our young elite for the “DAKAR 2026” Youth Olympic Games.

The demolition of the National Dojo Master Amara Dabo, headquarters of the Federation and training center for national teams, continues to hamper the functioning and smooth running of Senegalese judo. The negative impact on the sporting and administrative activities of the structure pushed the Senegalese Federation of Judo and associated disciplines, in a press release made public this Monday, February 5, to temporarily suspend its participation in international competitions.

“Faced with the absence of a satisfactory transitional solution, to allow the administration to function and internationals to train, the FSJDA finds itself in enormous difficulties in carrying out its public service mission activities. . Indeed, since our expulsion from the National Dojo, we have, through correspondence, proposed to the authorities places that could temporarily house the FSJDA, while waiting to build, with the help of international cooperation, a dojo meeting international standards. It is in this context that the FSJDA, with deep regret, took the difficult option of temporarily suspending its participation in international competitions,” laments Mr. Babacar Ngom, president of the judo body.

This measure, which he considers to be “the only alternative available to the FSJDA”, should, according to him, have serious consequences for the race to qualify Senegalese judokas for the “PARIS 2024” Olympic Games and the preparation of our elite. young person at the “DAKAR 2026” Youth Olympic Games, not counting the African and World championships.

“Indeed, international competitions are meetings where the high-level athlete has the duty to validly defend the national colors to deserve the nation and give a positive image of his country. This legitimate ambition necessarily requires good preparation of athletes and administrative monitoring in order to put our representatives in optimal performance conditions,” he maintains. Faced with this situation, the boss of Senegalese judo nonetheless hopes for support from the Ministry of Sports to enable Senegalese judo athletes to meet the demands of high-level sport.

“However, the current situation of Senegalese judo, characterized by the absence of a headquarters for processing files and a place of training for internationals, does not give us the possibility of responding favorably to the requirements of the high level. This is why we are counting on the support of the authorities of the Ministry of Sports and the CNOSS, for the effective resumption of the international activities of the FSJDA to the great benefit of our judo and our judokas,” he urges.
