Scoring Records Shattered at the All-Star Game: A Look at the Offensive Explosion

We thought we’d seen it all at the All-Star Game in recent years, but the return of the East versus West formula hasn’t changed anything. It’s even worse since we witnessed the most prolific meeting in history with 397 points accumulated with 211 points for the East, and 186 points for the West. The old record dated from 2016, and it was after this offensive orgy that the NBA decided to look into the competitiveness of its “all-star game”.

Eight years later, and after six years of experience with a Draft and a target score, nothing has changed!

— The 200 point mark is eclipsed. A winning shot from Tyrese Haliburton allowed the East to reach the 200-point mark, a first in All-Star Game history. The East will finish with 211 points, a new record for points for a team in the All-Star Game, eclipsing the West’s 196 points in 2016.

— Accumulation of points in an All-Star Game. With 397 points scored last night, the East and the West beat the old record (374 points in 2017) by 22 points!

The most prolific halves. The NBA hoped that the return to a traditional format would push players to take this All-Star Game a bit more seriously. They responded by scoring a first-half total of 193 points, a new single-half All-Star Game record. This record held for one half… since the two teams scored 204 points in the second half! The East also broke the record for points by a team in a half (107 points, in the second half).

3-point record. With 42 3-pointers scored last night, the East eclipsed the previous record set in 2017 (35, Team LeBron 2019). The 67 winning shots from both teams are also a new record. The old record dated from 2019 with 62 3-point successes.

Record for individual points in a quarter. With 31 points scored in the final period, Karl-Anthony Towns set a new record for points in a quarter, eclipsing Jayson Tatum’s mark of 27 points last season. This is the third All-Star Game in a row where a player scores 50 points or more (2202: Curry, 50 points | 2023: Tatum, 54 points | 2024: Towns, 50 points).

– Record of… faults. This is perhaps the most significant record: there were only three fouls called in this All-Star Game! For a total of five free throws… The old record dated from last season with 7 fouls.
