Schmidt reached the round of 16 with Benfica

Coach Roger Schmidt reached the round of 16 of the Europa League with Benfica Lisbon. A 0-0 draw was enough for the Portuguese champions in the home game against FC Toulouse. Benfica won the duel in France 2-1 (0-0) with a goal in stoppage time.

AC Milan is also through despite the 2:3 (1:1) defeat at Stade Rennes; the top Italian club won the first leg 3:0 (1:0). Three-time international Malick Thiaw came on as a substitute for Milan in the 80th minute.
