San Marino Baseball Adds Venezuelan Catcher Luis Alvarez to 2024 Lineup

While waiting for an increasingly closer start to preparation, San Marino Baseball is starting to unveil the lineup that will attack the 2024 title. The latest arrival is that of Luis Alvarez, who will be the team’s new catcher as well as the second foreigner together with Quevedo. Alvarez, Venezuelan, turned 34 just yesterday and has already had the opportunity to tread Italian diamonds. The player, who grew up in the Houston Astros organization for seasons in the Rookie League, Single A and Double A, made his debut in Italy with Padova in 2015.

For him an average of 276 in the box with 16 points batted at home, then numbers that definitely grew in the following season, again with the Venetian jersey (349 batting average). In 2017 he moved to Novara (279 with 19 rbi), while in 2019 he moved to Nettuno City (465 and 15). In recent seasons, and also in the offseasons of those played in Italy, he has been a protagonist in the Venezuelan winter league. From 2014 to 2016 with the Cardenales de Lara, from 2017 to 2021 with the Aguilas del Zulia and from then on with the Navegantes del Magallanes. Finally, in 2023-2024 he wore the Tigres de Aragua shirt. With Quevedo he will form a battery that can play on the understanding of the years spent together with the Astros organization and in Padua.
