Saint-Étienne disappointing and beaten at Dunkirk in Ligue 2

Olivier Dall’Oglio, the ASSE coach, did not wait for the final whistle of Dunkerque-Saint-Étienne, this Saturday afternoon, at the opening of the 23rd day of Ligue 2, to deliver from his sideline his analysis to the fourth referee, located not far from him: “It’s a big refereeing error which will cost us dearly”. By granting a corner to USL Dunkirk, while François Mughe, one of his starters, had just sent the ball into the side net on his own, Ahmed Taleb, the main referee of this match, despite himself caused the big turning point in this game, since Opa Sangante appeared at the far post, and behind Léo Pétrot’s back, to head the only goal of this match (81st).

It is worth gold for the USLD, – relegated at kick-off, it offers them a third victory in a row – as much as this goal further weighs down ASSE’s “play-off operation”. However, it would be an exaggeration to put this ninth defeat of the season for the Greens in Ligue 2, their new match without a goal, on this sole refereeing error. Because in a sold-out Marcel-Tribut stadium for the first time this season (4,933 seats), the Stéphanois showed too little to hope to win. Dall’Oglio, their coach, however made four changes compared to the already very disappointing starting lineup, in front of Amiens (0-1, January 27). In particular, the first tenure of Ibrahima Wadji since August 12 (1-2, in Rodez).

This, in the desire to abandon a game of possession that is too often sterile in favor of a more direct game, hopefully more clinical. But after being blocked (30th) and having framed poorly (36th), the Senegalese international (11 caps, 4 goals) missed the target (46th). The only big chance in this match for the Greens was ultimately the work of Dylan Chambost in the… 12th minute. Served by Wadji, he came up against the gloves of veteran Arnaud Balijon (40 years old). After a good save on a strike from Gaëtan Courtet (80th), Gautier Larsonneur ended up losing (81st). The end of the season promises to be a long one for the Greens.
