Casper Ruud seems to redirect a regular start to the year with his first semifinals of the season at the ATP Los Cabos 2024. The Norwegian, current world number 12, speaks at a press conference about his current moment and his next match with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
First semi-finals in months
“I feel very good, I always feel very good coming to this tournament in Los Cabos, as I have said on several occasions. It is a great place, with perfect conditions to play tennis. I am very happy with my performance in both the quarter-finals and the round of 16, happy to be in the semi-finals as it has been some time since the last time. “I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s match,” explains Ruud in the press room of the Mexican tournament. The last time he reached the semi-finals was last July in the Swedish tournament, so he is now breaking that streak by finding some regularity.
What has been the key to finding victories in both singles and doubles?
“I’m not sure. We got a good win in doubles today and maybe that gave me some confidence. In the end, my game adapts very well to the conditions here, there is a high bounce, one of the highest on hard courts of the year, so my topspin works very well, I also get great spin on the serve. I think that’s the most important thing, I hope that doubles will also help me in the semifinals.
The tracks are somewhat slow. They are the hard courts with the highest bounce and the slowest on the entire calendar. I remember something similar in Acapulco, too. It’s one of the main reasons I wanted to come here to play. It is something that can be seen from the outside and I think all the players feel it the same way.”
Casper now meets Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals of the ATP Los Cabos 2024, a player with whom he has a head-to-head tie of 1-1. The last time they saw each other was in the summer of 2021, so a lot has happened since then. The Greek arrives as a favorite, but he will have to be very careful with Ruud who feels very comfortable with the conditions.
