It was not his best day and he ended up somewhat frustrated, but still three silver medals hung around the neck of Venezuelan Richard Ollo, this Monday at the end of the third day of the Pan American Weightlifting Championships, Pre-Olympic 2024.

The young weightlifter, 22 years old, finished as runner-up in the 81 kilogram category. He was only able to execute two of the six attempts, but that was more than enough.

At the start, after failing his first two lifts, Ollo lifted 137 kilograms to avoid elimination and set the second best record in the category, only surpassed by the Colombian Edwin Lagarejo (143). Argentine Ariel Galeano took third place (130).

The podium was replicated exactly the same as the clean and jerk and the total. Ollo was silver with records of 168 kg and 305 kg, respectively, while Lagarejo was gold (170 kg – 313 kg) and Galeno (160 – 290) was bronze.

The Venezuelan chased the gold until the end. In fact, in the clean and jerk he asked for 175 kg for the second attempt and 177 for the third, but he was unsuccessful and had to settle for second place. Now his thirst for glory is greater.

“In the clean and jerk I gave everything to go for the gold medal and beat the Colombian, but I think they played me against the conditions, I was sweating a lot and the bar slipped,” commented the young man, who is barely three years old in the discipline.

“This doesn’t stay like this… A lot of hard work is coming for me because these medals have to turn into gold,” he concluded.
