21 February 2024, 09:43

This coming weekend, the Czech Republic Junior and Youth Championship will take place in the Ostrava Athletic Hall, where we can look forward to a number of athletes who have already managed to break national records in their categories this year. Historical records will certainly be in jeopardy this time as well.

One of the most prominent personalities of the championship will be the junior European champion at 400 meters Lourdes Gloria Manuel. In Ostrava, she will run her main discipline, in which she already flashed a 53.10 individual a few weeks ago and confirmed her great form in other races as well. This year, she already broke the junior national maximum in the two hundred with a time of 23.63, and in the same discipline less than a week ago, she mastered the adult champions. She also added fourth place in the 60, where she ran a career high of 7.49. Her junior national record under the open sky has a value of 51.23, and she will certainly try to attack the indoor one, which has been held by Terezia Táborská since Sunday with a time of 52.93.

A few days ago, she surprised not only with this time, but also by winning bronze in the tough competition of the 400-meter championship race, when she lost only to Lada Vondrová and Tereza Petržilková, and on the contrary, she left behind experienced competitors Marcela Pírková and Nikola Bendová. At Gigant, he will test his speed on the 60 and 200 meter tracks. Especially in the 200m, we certainly have a lot to look forward to in her performance, as in this discipline she broke the junior national records both indoors and outdoors last year.

A speed test is also waiting for half-tracker Adéla Holubová. The new champion of the republic in the women’s category decorated her triumph with a junior national record of 2:04.27 on Sunday, and after a week she will strive for the most valuable metal in the fourth round in Ostrava, where her biggest opponent should be her teammate from Sokol České Budějovice and the new junior all-around champion Nina Radová .

Speaking of the Radovys, her brother Michal will also be in Ostrava. He collects junior national records like on a treadmill. This season, he has already entered the record statistics three times. Right at his triple jump premiere, he recorded the historical maximum of his category with a performance of 15.05. He won the heptathlon title with a record 5,691 points, and in the same race, the native also set a time of 7.67 in the 60 hurdles. At the Gigant, he will perform in the triple jump, long jump and hurdles.

Among the juniors, Petr Meindlschmid will be a big favorite in the long-distance race. Another of the winners of last year’s European Olympic Festival is gradually getting closer to Ivo Krsko’s year-old national record, which he loses by just two centimeters with a performance of 772. Under the open sky, Petr can already do 781. At the championship of the Czech Republic, he was a very worthy opponent to Radek Jušek, to whom he lost by only four centimeters. At the Gigant, he is also the main favorite for the two hundred.

This year, Filip Toul broke the junior national record in the 15-man race with a time of 3:48.76, and Adam Červinka, thanks to his performance of 8:25.92, became the new holder of the historical maximum in this category in the three-man race. For Gigant, both fighters will switch disciplines and will be able to attack each other’s records.

Filip Vojáček will be another fresh national record holder starting this weekend in Ostrava. This year, he managed to run the 200 in 21.58, which improved Matěj Krsko’s record by four hundredths. A sprint duel awaits Filip. In addition to the 200, he will also run the 60, where the second fastest teenager in history at this distance with a 6.87 Adam Juliš will be waiting for him. However, the soldier is only two hundredths slower. In the 200, both fighters are separated by one tenth.

Then there are male and female athletes who are not far from breaking national records, and Gigant is the ideal opportunity for them to break them. For example, Olomouc’s Johanka Šafránková in the two hundred with a time of 23.75 loses just one hundredth to the year-old record of Terezia Táborská. The fourth-place finisher Marek Váňa is gradually approaching Tadeáš Plaček’s maximum in the same category.

Martina Mazurová, the fourth shot putter of last year’s European Junior Championship, will have a hard time looking for an equal opponent, so the biggest challenge for her is overcoming the 16-meter mark. It came within three centimeters at the men’s and women’s MČR. The outdoor passenger car is even 15.99, so the dream milestone is about to fall.

The junior pole vault competition with Viktoria Ondrová and Apolena Švábíková or Jan Krček and Ladislav Sedláček will certainly not be without interest. However, a number of other disciplines can also bring us a bunch of top performances. Moreover, there is no shortage of surprises at Gigant.
