Pierre Latour misses the mark on the 2nd stage of the Tour of Rwanda, Itamar Einhorn wins in the sprint

It was a close call for Pierre Latour to open his account this season during this second stage of the Tour du Rwanda, which he is discovering this year. The TotalEnergies rider was very active in the final, shaking the head of the peloton to the point of finding himself isolated at the right time less than five kilometers from the finish. But in the long descent which led to the finish, the Frenchman could not resist the return of the peloton well led by the teams of Israel-Premier Tech and Soudal-Quickstep.

300 meters from the finish line, he was caught on the wire, leaving the field open for a beautiful massive sprint won by the Israeli national champion Itamar Einhorn of the Israel-Premier Tech team. Which marked his 5th victory among the pros (his 3rd outside Israel), after having passed through all levels of the structure of this team, first in the development group in 2017 then in the World Tour in 2020.

Designated to accompany Chris Froome on these mountainous roads of Rwanda, he knew that one of the rare opportunities to be seized for the sprinters was limited to this second stage before tomorrow’s and its 3,000 meters of altitude difference.
