Pérez expects ‘different dynamics’ at Mercedes after Hamilton news: ‘Know how jealous teams are’

Sergio Pérez is very curious about what the dynamics in the Mercedes team will be in 2024 now that Lewis Hamilton has already announced that he will leave the German racing team at the end of the year. The Red Bull Racing driver himself expects to see a ‘jealous’ Mercedes in 2024 and last season’s runner-up explains why he thinks that.

At the beginning of February, the news emerged that Hamilton will switch to Ferrari in 2025. Many, including Pérez, could understand the choice of the seven-time world champion, but the moment at which the news was announced was found strange. After all, the 39-year-old Briton still has a whole season ahead of him with Mercedes. Pérez is already very curious about the consequences of Hamilton’s departure within the German team.

“It will be interesting how the dynamics will change,” the 34-year-old Mexican told RaceFans, among others. ‘We all know how jealous teams can be when it comes to sharing information. Lewis (Hamilton, ed.) has of course driven for Mercedes for a very long time, so he brings a lot of knowledge to another team,” Max Verstappen’s teammate explains.

Wolff isn’t worried

Toto Wolff previously indicated that he was not concerned about the issue. According to the Austrian team boss, the German team will evaluate later in the season what Hamilton will and will not be involved in. In any case, Wolff does not doubt the integrity of his departing star driver. ‘It’s certainly not something I’m concerned about at the moment. We have engineers who leave us and go to other teams and the notice period is sometimes only six months. I have no doubts about Lewis’s integrity when it comes to sharing information,” Wolff previously said.
