Patrick Wimmer’s Comeback and VfL Wolfsburg’s Struggle for Success

In October, Patrick Wimmer tore his syndesmotic ligament while his VfL Wolfsburg was playing against FC Augsburg and has been working doggedly on his comeback ever since.

On the last matchday, in the 1-1 draw against Dortmund, he was back in the “Wolves” squad for the first time, but it wasn’t enough to play.

But it still felt “cool” to be there again, as he tells Kicker. As positive as his comeback is, the sporting situation of his club is just as dismal.

Wolfsburg has forgotten how to win

In the new year they are still without a win, mutated into the “draw emperor” of the league with five points split in the last six games and slipped to twelfth place. There have only been two wins from the last 16 games.

But the goal is and remains international business. “I don’t give a shit about the series,” Wimmer clarifies. You still have the chance and we will do everything we can to take advantage of it.

Eintracht Frankfurt is currently in sixth place in the European Cup and is already nine points ahead of VfL. “Frankfurt is a competitor that is in front of us and that we want to overtake,” says Wimmer confidently.
