Mouratoglou’s most famous and successful coaching stint was spent alongside superstar Serena Williams, who was supported by the 53-year-old from 2012 until the end of her career. Williams won, among other things, two Olympic gold medals and ten Grand Slam tournaments under Mouratoglou.

“Hello Patrick Mouratoglou. We look forward to new victories together with you and the team,” announced Rune via X.

Curious comeback alongside Rune

The quick end of the collaboration with Becker caused a huge media stir at the beginning of February, especially since the German only coached the world number seven for four months. Aneke Rune, mother and at the same time a kind of manager of the tennis professional, spoke of “a necessary change” when asked by SPORT1, even though the chemistry between the two was “great”.

Curious: Mouratoglou and Rune ended their first collaboration in April 2023 – similar to the Becker case after just six months.
