Pairetto’s Firmness and Reliability on Display in Cagliari-Napoli Match

After emerging unscathed from the very tough derby between Empoli and Fiorentina, in which he partly displeased both teams but was promoted by the referees, Pairetto was brought back for a high second tier race like Cagliari-Napoli. Severity and harshness (even verbal) with footballers are among his characteristics. However, the son of art is known for his firmness and reliability but how did he fare yesterday?

Cagliari-Napoli, the cases from slow motion

These are the main dubious episodes. In the 4th minute there was a melee between Osimhen and Mina: the Cagliari centre-back visibly tugs at the Nigerian, complete with a “pinch” on the chest, and then being moved by weight. The referee does not warn but scolds both. In the 25th minute there was contact between Raspadori and Mina in the penalty area, with the defender appearing to unbalance the Azzurri attacker with his hip. In reality the touch occurs with the leg: slight contact but it’s there, doubts remain due to the missed penalty. In the 32nd minute Rrahmani headed it into his own goal, but the VAR intervened and canceled it due to Lapadula’s offside position who came into contact with the Napoli central defender himself and disturbed him. In the 69th minute there was a repeated clash between Juan Jesus and Pavoletti who fell disastrously in the area. Pairetto lets it go, there is a VAR check but without results.

For Marelli it was right to cancel the goal against Cagliari

Luca Marelli clarifies this. The Dazn expert starts from the protests over an alleged penalty for Napoli: “Jerry Mina has taken a stand, there’s a bit of skill involved, there were no limits for the penalty”. On Rrahmani’s own goal, which was later cancelled, Marelli explains: “Similar episode to that of Roma-Inter but this time it was right to cancel. Lapadula starts from a dubious position and it seems that he also helped himself with his arm. Not so much the contact, but the impact that an offside player can have on another trying to play. Lapadula tries to play the ball and comes into contact with Rrahmani. Lapadula’s offside had an impact and, therefore, Rrahmani’s own goal was rightly disallowed.” Finally, on the contact between Juan Jesus and Pavoletti he explains: “There was a foul but outside the area, a hold then with the belly he went on Pavoletti who falls in the area but the foul is outside, between Zappa and Mazzocchi immediately after however there is no not even contact.” In the end, Pairetto’s performance in Cagliari-Napoli was fair.
