NEC was the first club to reach the semi-finals of the KNVB Cup on Tuesday. Thanks to star Tjaronn Chery, ADO Den Haag was defeated 3-0 in the Goffert Stadium.

The opening goal came in the second minute and was scored by Koki Ogawa. The Japanese attacker from NEC headed home from a corner from winter signing Chery and scored his tenth goal of the season.

After the exciting start, the rest of the match was quite disappointing. NEC was sloppy, while ADO also failed to create much danger. Yet NEC ended the game in the second half. Dirk Proper shot in beautifully.

Not long afterwards it was Chery’s turn, who made the home crowd cheer again by finding the far corner, just like Proper. The 35-year-old playmaker already has three goals and one assist after three games for NEC.

Thanks to the victory, NEC still has one more hurdle to overcome to be able to call itself a cup finalist for the fifth time in club history. The finals were lost in 1973, 1983, 1994 and 2000. ADO, which performs strongly in the Kitchen Champion Division, won the KNVB Cup twice.

The second and third quarter-finals will follow on Wednesday with SC Cambuur-Vitesse (kick-off: 6:45 PM) and Feyenoord-AZ (9:00 PM). FC Groningen and Fortuna Sittard will compete for the last semi-final ticket on Thursday from 8 p.m.
