Omar Sy Finds Tranquility in the United States: Reveals Major Difference Between Americans and French

Several years after leaving France to settle in the United States, Omar Sy does not regret his choice which allowed him to achieve a certain tranquility. Because in the country of Uncle Sam, the actor spotted a major difference between the Americans and the French. And for him, it makes all the difference.

He makes no secret of it: like many French celebrities, Omar Sy has chosen to leave France. In his case, it is in the United States, and more precisely in California, that the ex-acolyte of Fred Testot found his happiness.

In the columns of “Parisien” and “Psychologues”, the man who inscribed his name in the pantheon of popular French cinema with his role in “Intouchables” explained thus:

I didn’t set out for my career. I wanted to take a sabbatical because I needed some perspective after “Intouchables”. It was so huge that I had to think about it. I stopped watching TV, I had to decide whether to only do cinema or not.

I wondered what I could do with this new status. I needed to protect my kids. To protect me. So, I put some distance.

It worked much better than we imagined. There were job opportunities, we felt good there, we found a form of relief compared to what we had just experienced in France… There, the notoriety is gentler.

Omar Sy notes that the Americans approach him less than the French

If the notoriety is softer, it is because the Americans are a little less invasive according to him, and this despite his role in “Lupin” which reinforced his international fame. To TF1, he explained as follows:

The Americans have a different relationship to notoriety there, it’s a little different: they are less approachable, they recognize a little from afar.

In any case, Omar Sy has no regrets about moving to the United States, neither for himself nor for his family:

What I ran away from? I don’t know if it’s actually a leak. What I went there to find, rather, was a form of serenity, a form of perspective. The geographical distance allowed me to have a little distance from what was happening to me. We felt very good there!

After achieving immense notoriety in France, Omar Sy made the difficult decision to leave the country where he was born and go several thousand kilometers away. When it comes time to take stock, he is in any case convinced that it was the right decision. And so much the better for him and his family!
