With the Cuban Yulián Rondón as their offensive spark plug, Olmecas de Tabasco (7-8) beat the women’s Diablos Rojos 10-7 (9-6) in the Mexican Softball League and put the series 1-0 in their favor.

In the duel, which was suspended for a few minutes due to the seismic alert in Mexico City, the disciples of manager María Luisa Hernández took the lead from the first inning by capitalizing on a rally from three runs that increased to seven in the second roll.

The harvest of the Tabasco team at the Ciudad Universitaria baseball stadium grew to eight in the fifth inning, although Diablos also managed to get the shutout and hit three to put the score provisionally at 8-3. In the sixth, the Olmecas reached double digits.

A home run by Ximena Guerrero to left field, also in the sixth, brought Diablos closer, but it was not enough to complete the somersault.

The capital’s team came to the duel against Olmecas after beating Águila de Veracruz 5-1 in the second game of their series, while those from Tabasco fell in extrainnings against Sultanes 5-3.

The scarlets will close the series today in Ciudad Universitaria starting at two in the afternoon.

The first ball of the match was thrown by the UNAM team.

Good dividends

The Mexican Softball League is in its first season, which has generated good dividends among fans; That is why Horacio de la Vega, its president, is already thinking about expanding even until 2026.

Among the teams interested in joining the nascent Softball League are the Leones de Yucatán. For now, by 2024, they hope that two more squads will be added.
