Novara’s Centenarians: Maria Carmela Ricci turns 112

Originally from San Bartolomeo in Galdo, in the province of Benevento, but, as the town’s municipality says, she left home practically very young. Maria Carmela Ricci, resident of Novara and one of Italy’s longest-lived centenarians, will turn 112 on April 16th. In the ranking of super centenarians, Mrs. Ricci occupies seventh position, in the “top ten” of older people.

In general in Novara there are many people who have reached the age of 100 and those who have exceeded it: among centenarians and over centenarians, there are a total of 85 elderly people, precisely 12 males and 73 females. As reported in the data requested from the Municipality of Novara, there are 32 centenarians, 20 people aged 101, 17 those aged 102, four people are 103 years old, seven are 104. And four more people have turned 105 and one is close to 112.

The first to blow out a cake of 100 candles in 2024 was Elisbetta, known as Bettina, Bernardini Giovaninetti last January 15th. Originally from Crod, she moved to Novara when her husband who worked at Edison, then Enel, moved in 1950. A sporty woman, Bettina has always been passionate about baseball, or rather a die-hard fan, “ultras” as she likes to define herself.
