Nova Arianto Appointed as Coach of the Indonesian U16 National Team

KOMPAS.com – Nova Arianto was appointed by PSSI Technical Director, Indra Sjafri, to lead the Indonesian 16 national team.

The appointment of Nova Arianto, who has served as assistant coach to Shin Tae-yong for a long time in the senior squad, coincides with the start of selection for the Indonesian U16 national team.

The selection took place at Field B, Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium Complex, Jakarta, Monday (19/2/2024).

The selection process for the U16 national team, which is led directly by Nova Arianto, will take place from 19 to 21 February 2024.

A total of 32 names were called to undergo the first wave of selection which was held for three days.

It should be noted in advance that the General Chair of PSSI, Erick Thohir, has appointed Indra Sjafri to be responsible for the Indonesian U20 and U17 national teams.

However, the former Bali United tactician only acts as head coach for the Indonesian U20 national team.

However, Indra Sjafri was directly involved in the U16 team selection process which took place this Monday.

“I was present to see the U16 selection directly. So I was assigned by Ketum to be responsible for the U20 and U17 teams. However, I only focused on being the head coach of the U20 team,” said Indra, quoted from the PSSI website.

Indra Sjafri, who once brought the Indonesian U23 national team to win the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games, wants an update in the composition of coaches.

“For U17, I delegated Nova Arianto as the team’s head coach. “This is different from Shin Tae-yong who handles two teams at the same time as head coach (senior and U23),” explained Indra.

“Here, I want coaching regeneration,” explained the 61-year-old coach.

Nova Arianto, who received the mandate from Indra Sjafri, admitted that he was ready to carry out this role.

“Thank you PSSI and coach “Indra Sjafri has given his trust to me to carry out the task of managing the U16 team,” he said.

“As I said before, we will improve it from the bottom so that players can be better prepared when they enter the top level later,” said Nova.

The team led by Nova Arianto is projected to perform at event AFF U16 Cup and U17 Asian Cup Qualification.
