Nordic combination: Lamparter is back for Seefeld

To kick off the tenth edition of the three-pack, there will be normal hill jumping (from 11:50 a.m. live on ORF1, start at 12:00 p.m.) on the Seelos ski jump and cross-country skiing over 7.5 km (from 3:00 p.m. live on ORF1, start at 3:10 p.m.) on Friday the program.

According to ÖSV information, Lamparter reserved the option of leaving early if his fitness level was not sufficient. “It would be an absolute cold start,” the Tyrolean explained in the middle of the week, dampening his expectations after a two-and-a-half week break due to a persistent cold. “I wouldn’t think it’s realistic to fight for the podium, it won’t quite play out.”

Norwegians are looking for revenge

Last year, Lamparter broke the Norwegian winning streak following successes from top star Jarl Magnus Riiber in 2020 and 2021 and Jörgen Graabak in 2022. A torn seam on Riiber’s jump suit, which led to his disqualification on the second day, had contributed to Lamparter’s victory the previous year.

That’s not the only reason why the Norwegians are looking for revenge. “Our goal is to secure the triple, but everyone knows that Austria has a lot of good runners and will certainly give us a fight at home,” said Norway team manager Ivar Stuan.

Hirner hopes for improvement

The role of favorite among the women, who will be taking part in two World Cup competitions in Seefeld, is even more clearly in favor of Norway. Gyda Westvold Hansen and Co. won all eight season competitions with double victories. In only three races were other nations allowed to finish third on the podium.

Lisa Hirner managed to do this once in Ramsau, but she didn’t end up at the top in the end. Nevertheless, she wants to attack in Seefeld. “A home World Cup is always something special. I want to show what I’m capable of, but I don’t set my expectations so high because I’ve been a bit sick recently,” said the Tyrolean-by-choice.
