Nicolás Morales Rey and Sergio Zapata Ramírez were the best in the national under-19 badminton selection and, thanks to this, they ensured their participation in the Bolivarian Youth Sports Games.
The Quindian rackets placed 1 and 2 in the contest that took place last weekend in the municipality of Yumbo, in Valle del Cauca, they arrived as great favorites to win the spots at the international event and did not clash.
The Quindío Badminton League did not hide their satisfaction and recognized Nicolás and Sergio as important pillars to confirm that the department is a national power in the discipline.
“After 2 days of competition and high temperatures here in Yumbo, Valle del Cauca, the Quindians destroyed their rivals and showed why they are the 1 and 2 racket in the country, we are happy in the league for this representation” , were the words of Hugo Morales, coach of the league.

Both Morales Rey and Zapata Ramírez faced exponents from regions such as Antioquia, Bogotá, Risaralda, Valle del Cauca, Cauca, the Santanders or the Atlantic coast.
Both athletes have to their credit their participation in the last Eje Cafetero 2023 National Sports Games, where they contributed their talent so that Quindío achieved the bronze medal at the team level.
Furthermore, their constant victories from an early age caught the attention of the coaches of the different national teams and now they are the country’s references for the competition that will take place in Sucre, Bolivia, from April 4 to 14 of the current year. .
The continental event will have the presence of countries such as Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Venezuela and Chile. There will be more than 5,000 athletes who will be in the South American highlands.
