A new attendance record was set in the Women’s Super League, the English women’s football championship, with more than 60,000 fans attending the match between Arsenal and Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium in London, this Saturday February 17. The stadium, usually reserved for the men’s team, was full for the first time in history. “ Another championship record, another historic moment », Wrote the Arsenal club on the X network, announcing the presence of 60,160 people. The previous attendance record for the women’s league dated back to December, with 59,042 people recorded during Arsenal’s victory, already at the Emirates, against the quadruple title holders Chelsea (4-1). Before February 17, only one women’s football match had been played behind closed doors in the Gunners stadium: the Champions League semi-final lost to Wolfsburg (2-3 defeat) in front of a total of 60,063 people in May 2023.
