Navalny’s mother is asking Putin to hand over his body

BarcelonaThe X account of Iúlia Navàlnaia, widow of Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalni, who died on Friday in a maximum security prison in the Arctic, has been suspended this Tuesday for an hour. Elon Musk’s network has not given an explanation. The woman had created the profile on Monday to spread a video in which she accused Putin of killing the only Russian opponent who could shadow him.

The Kremlin has responded to Navalny’s accusations by calling them “baseless” and “insolent,” Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov told the daily briefing. The woman has also promised to continue her husband’s work. “Considering that she has just become a widow, I will not make any comments,” said Peskov. The spokesman said he had not seen the video and did not want to comment on the family’s criticism for not handing over the body.

Five days without the body

And it is that five days after the death, the Russian authorities have not yet handed over the body of Navalny, who decided to return to Russia after being poisoned with Novichok, as the German authorities certified, a substance that he denounced the opponent is only within reach of the Russian secret services. Navalny’s entourage is calling for an independent autopsy to clarify the circumstances of the opposition’s death, which the Kremlin attributed to thrombosis.

This Tuesday, Navalni’s mother published a video in which she urges Putin to hand over her son’s body to her. “The solution depends only on you. Let me see my son, so I can bury him humanely,” says the woman, speaking from the IK-3 penal colony, the remote prison where Navalni spent his last days in very difficult conditions. Navalni’s mother arrived in the colony the day after the opposition’s death was announced, which was officially communicated to her. He was told the body was in Salekhard’s depot, but when he went there he was told it wasn’t there. Navalny’s spokeswoman later explained that the Investigative Committee, a body dependent on the Kremlin, had said it would hold the body for at least two weeks for a chemical test.

The director of the Anti-corruption Foundation, Ivan Zhdanov, explained that they have submitted a lawsuit to the Salekhard court for the refusal of the Investigative Committee to hand over the body to the family.
