MLB Top Prospects Face Off in Spring Training Showdown: Why Aren’t All Games Televised?

Craig Conroy, general manager of the Flames, expressed that while it is never easy to let go of players who have contributed greatly to the organization over four years, it was a necessary decision. The team considered various options and after many discussions with other teams, ultimately decided that acquiring 20-year-old defensive player Artem Grushnikov would be the best move for the Calgary Flames. Grushnikov is known for his solid defensive skills, particularly on the penalty kill, and brings strength and reliability to the team. Conroy expressed satisfaction in adding him to the group.
As of now, the Stars (35-17-9) have the same record as the Winnipeg Jets in the Central Division, but the Jets have four extra games to play. The Dallas team is ranked 14th in the NHL for allowing an average of 3.03 goals per game.

The Devils currently have a record of 30-25-4 and are trailing the Tampa Bay Lightning by five points for the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. However, they have two extra games to play.

The Flames (29-25-5) have won four consecutive games and are currently five points behind the Nashville Predators for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference playoffs.

At just 20 years old, Grushnikov has recorded a total of five points (one goal, four assists) while playing 44 games for the Texas team in the American Hockey League this season. He was chosen in the second round (at spot No. 48) during the NHL Draft of 2021.

“We are lucky to have the chance to bring in a player like Chris, who has a high level of skill, to our team,” stated Jim Nill, the general manager of the Stars. “He has a successful track record as a defenseman in the playoffs and is adept in all areas of the game on the ice. Chris is known as one of the top penalty killers in the NHL and will greatly benefit our special teams.”
