Ilyes Bennane was only 13 years old, but still made the front page of The last hour this Tuesday. An honor which can be explained by his precociousness: in fact, the young talent from Racing Genk has become neither more nor less than the youngest player taken into the Belgian national youth team, joining the U15 national team barely turning 13 .
For comparison: Romelu Lukaku, whose physical precocity was well known, had to wait 14 and a half years to join the U15 national team. And in club, Bennane also plays in U15, even training occasionally with the Genk U16s. An upgrade which is, unlike Lukaku, not linked to an unusual physique, because Bennane has the physique of “a 13-year-old kid”, we read.
It is therefore pure talent that allows Ilyes Bennane to rub shoulders with players much stronger than him. Here again for comparison, a certain Rayane Bounida (17 years old), who has been talked about so much, has never been upgraded among the young players of Anderlecht and is now in U17 at Ajax, not in U21, for example. For Jelle Van Damme (ex-Standard and ex-Anderlecht), one of his agents, Bennane is quite simply “one of the greatest talents in Europe”. We just want to see, even if we have to be patient.
