Max Eberl Set to Accelerate FC Bayern’s Sports Director Transition

When it comes to the most important personnel in German football, things are now moving faster!

BILD knows: If FC Bayern’s supervisory board agrees at its meeting on February 26th, Max Eberl (50) will take up his position as sports director for the record champions on March 1st. A month earlier than planned.

Background: His break was long enough, Eberl is eager to finally get started. And so he can familiarize himself with the club earlier and prepare for the upcoming summer transfer period. In Leipzig, Eberl was released as “Managing Director of Sports” on September 30, 2023, despite a contract that runs until 2026. The reason for this was “lack of commitment”.

Now his move to Bayern. There is currently no sports director at FC Bayern. The position has been vacant since Hasan Salihamidzic left in May 2023. Bayern have had a new sports director since September, Christoph Freund, who will work closely with Eberl in the future.

Recently there were intensive discussions between RB Leipzig and Bayern. Only this week both clubs reached an agreement regarding the release of the released RB managing director. The transfer fee should be around 3.5 million euros in cash. But that’s not all: according to BILD information, RB’s business even brings in a total of 4.5 million.

What is the composition of the additional million?

An agreed transfer game for the RB release of their then coach Julian Nagelsmann (36) from 2021 was canceled as part of the Eberl negotiations. Leipzig would have collected the income here, but instead receives a six-figure transfer. In addition, Eberl waives any salary or bonus payments to which he is entitled.
