Matej Mohoric wins the second stage of the Tour of Valencia, Alessandro Tonelli remains leader

Matej Mohoric performed a number this Thursday on the second stage of the Tour of Valencia linking Canals to La Valldigna. Often considered the best downhiller in the world, the Slovenian has lived up to his reputation.

Mohoric took advantage of a technical descent a few kilometers from the finish line to leave a peloton disorganized by the ascent of the Alto Pla de Corrais. The winner of the 19th stage of the last Tour de France won with a 13-second lead ahead of Giovanni Lonardi and Simone Consonni.

Winner of the first breakaway stage on Wednesday, Alessandro Tonelli remains leader of the general classification with 1’07” ahead of Mohoric and 1’31” over Michael Matthews (Jayco-AlUla). The Italian will defend his tunic on Friday during a stage for sprinters between San Vicente del Raspeig and Orihuela.
