Marc Marquez has completed his first pre-season test with the Gresini team in a three-day session on February 6-8 at the Sepang Circuit, Malaysia.

The new Gresini racer ended the 2024 Sepang MotoGP Test with the best lap time which surpassed the official MotoGP fastest lap record on this 5.5 km long track.

Riding a Ducati Desmosedici GP23, last season’s champion motorbike, Marquez posted a best time of 1 minute 57.270 seconds. The record is 1 minute 57.491 seconds.

Among the four old Ducati motorbike riders who are currently dominating, Marquez only lost to his younger brother and teammate, Alex Marquez (1:56.915).

Even though he was late when he started the 2024 Sepang MotoGP Test, the performance of the former Repsol Honda rider received attention.

Last season’s MotoGP runner-up, Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac), also rode a Ducati motorbike but with the latest version, saw great potential in him.

“He (Marc Marquez) is in the position I expected. He will be close to winning in Qatar,” said Martin, as reported by Crash.net.

Marquez has good capital to win, at least if you look at the sprint simulation he did on the last day of the Sepang MotoGP Test.

Carrying out 10 consecutive laps, the duration of the Malaysian GP sprint, on the final day, Marquez showed impressive pace or speed.

Marquez’s speed is close to that of three factory Ducati motorbike racers, including the defending champion, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo).
