Long-time national team center Rasid Mahalbasic will say goodbye to Austria’s selection after the upcoming pre-qualification game for the 2027 World Cup. As the 33-year-old announced on Sunday evening, the game against Armenia on February 22nd at the Hallmann Dome in Vienna will be his last in the team jersey.
Mahalbasic explained in a letter to the local association leadership and team boss Chris O’Shea that he wanted to make room for younger players. Mahalbasic currently plays in Mexico for Halcones UV Xalapa. It is the 16th foreign station for the center, which grew up in Klagenfurt, since 2010.
