Liverpool will realize the dream of seriously ill Eriksson against Ajax

Sven-Göran Eriksson will be part of the coaching staff of the Liverpool Legends in March when they take on Ajax, the club has announced. The Swedish coach is terminally ill and does not have long to live.
A month ago, Eriksson announced that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and is expected to live at most a year.
After that announcement, the 75-year-old Swede admitted that he was a big fan of Liverpool and ‘always wanted to become manager of the club’. Those words led to a real campaign, which has now resulted in an invitation.
Eriksson will be in charge of the Liverpool Legends’ match against Ajax on March 23. Other big names from the past who will join Eriksson on the bench are Ian Rush, John Barnes and John Aldridge.
“Everyone who feels connected to the club and the LFC Foundation looks forward to welcoming Sven and his family to Anfield and seeing him in the dugout that day for a fantastic occasion,” it said.
Eriksson, who had a rich coaching career spanning 42 years, is considered the first foreign coach of the English national team. He led the Three Lions to the World Cup quarter-finals in 2002 and 2006.
Babel also participates
Liverpool also writes on the club website that the first group is complete. Jerzy Dudek, Sander Westerveld, Martin Skrtel, Fábio Aurélio and Grégory Vignal, among others, are participating. Djibril Cissé has also agreed.
Someone who plays for both teams is Ryan Babel. The wing attacker played for both Ajax and Liverpool. More names will be announced in the coming weeks.
Proceeds from the competition will go to the LFC Foundation. The Legends’ two previous matches against Manchester United and Celtic raised around 1.7 million euros.
