Bilbao won against the Catalans this Monday, during the last meeting of the 25th day of the Spanish championship.
Trailing from the second minute of play in San Mamés, Girona conceded a second defeat in a row in La Liga on Monday, on the pitch of Athletic Bilbao (3- 2), letting slip the opportunity to come back to within three points of Real Madrid at the end of the 25th day. The Catalans (2nd in the standings, 56 points), humiliated at the Santiago Bernabéu (4-0) last week, are no longer moving forward and see their Barcelona neighbor (3rd) returning in their rearview mirror, who is only two lengths behind. Bilbao (5th, 49 points) is hanging on in the race for the Champions League and remains two points behind Atlético (4th, 51 points).
Michel’s men, deprived of Daley Blind and Yan Coutu in defense and Yangel Herrera in the middle, were weighed down by two defensive errors perfectly exploited by Alex Berenguer (2nd, 56th ), before the inevitable Inaki Williams widens the gap (60th). Eric Garcia reduced it (75th), but in vain.
