Leo Sauer contract extension • It’s happening!

Leo Sauer contract extension • It’s happening!

Feyenoord and Leo Sauer have reached an agreement: the 18-year-old Slovak from Bratislava will permanently extend his contract. The left winger’s familiar environment will travel to Rotterdam this week to be present at the signing of his new contract.

The left winger will be active with Slovakia at the 2024 European Championships next summer and will extend his contract with Feyenoord for two additional seasons. Sauer was decisive from a corner last week against RKC Waalwijk with an assist on match winner Mats Wieffer: 1-0.

Sauer was hired from MŠK Žilina in the summer of 2022. Feyenoord negotiated a purchase option with the Slovak club under (at the time head scout) Mark Ruijl and that purchase option was lifted in the spring of 2023. The winger therefore committed himself to the Rotterdam team for another three years.

The Slovak is experiencing his definitive breakthrough this season. He is regularly in the main selection of trainer Arne Slot and his performances leave us wanting more. He already scored an important goal at Sparta Rotterdam (2-2) and has also managed to provide three assists in the Eredivisie.

Feyenoord will soon announce the contract extension of Sauer, who will sign until mid-2028. On the winter transfer deadline day, there were still thoughts from the Rotterdam club to stable Sauer at Excelsior for 1.5 seasons, but an incoming transfer from Couhaib Driouech failed to materialize.
