Legendary Penn High School Football Coach Cory Yeoman Announces Retirement

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) – The Penn High School football team will be without a hall of famer on the sidelines this upcoming fall.

After more than 40 years with the Kingsmen football program, head coach Cory Yeoman announced on Thursday he’s retiring at the end of the school year.

The Indiana Football Hall of Famer has served as head coach at Penn for the last 21 seasons. Prior to 2003, he was an assistant coach under legendary head coach Chris Geesman for 19 seasons.

During his 21 seasons at the helm, Yeoman led the Kingsmen to a 208-56 overall record, including four semi-state titles, nine regional titles, 13 sectional titles, and 18 Northern Indiana Conference championships.

It’s just some of the accolades he’s earned spending a lifetime around Penn.

“When I was a little boy, my dad was a Hall of Fame coach here for Coach Geesmen and I used to sneak around as a little boy and crawl on the floor and listen between the grates to my dad and Coach Geesmen in the football office, and I just liked to listen to my dad and Coach Geesmen talk football talk,” Yeoman said. “Naturally, being a ball boy here as a little boy growing up, I get excited whenever those guys with a gold helmet run through that tunnel. Still to this day. Still special.”

For those who played under Yeoman, his legacy stretches beyond the gridiron.

“I mean, he’s been almost like a father figure to me,” said Penn senior quarterback Nolan McCullough. “The lessons he’s taught me — not only on the football side, but the life side. He’s just been great to us.”

Penn will begin an immediate search for a new head football coach.
