LeBron James undecided about retirement and future with the Lakers

Indianapolis (USA).- LeBron James, who is in Indianapolis for the twentieth All-Star of his career, said this Sunday that he does not know how many seasons he has left, but he does know “that there are not many” and suggested that He would like to close his career in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers jersey.

“I haven’t thought about how many seasons I have left, I know it’s not many,” said LeBron in a press conference organized at the Gainbdridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis in the run-up to the 2024 All-Star Game.

LeBron, 39, also admitted that he is also not sure if he would like to have a farewell tour to receive the love of every American city, or if he would prefer to put an end to his legendary career by staying a little further away from the spotlight.

“I’m 50-50. I’m going to be honest, because there are times when I feel like I owe it to my fans who have supported me on this journey for twenty years and more, that I owe it to them to give them that moment where every city gives you flowers or whatever. That seems nice,” he reasoned.

“But on the other hand I’ve never been very good at receiving compliments. It’s something strange for me. I never talked much about it, it’s a strange feeling. So go to each city, I don’t know. I’ve seen Mike (Jordan), I’ve seen Kobe (Bryant). I’ve seen a lot of guys do it.

“I don’t know how I would feel, I don’t know if I would love it,” he continued. Of course, he did not close the door to retiring in Los Angeles, with the Lakers in which he won the fourth ring of his career.

“I don’t know, I’m a Laker, I’m very happy and I’ve been very happy being a Laker for the last six years, I hope it continues this way. I don’t have the answer as to how long it will last and with what shirt. I hope it’s with the Lakers. It is a great franchise and has had many greats. I don’t know how it will end, but the end is coming, it is certainly coming,” he assured.

LeBron also referred to his desire to join the American team in the next Paris Games.

“I told myself at the beginning of the season, when I committed to competing in the Games, that it depended on my health. At the moment I am healthy, I am good enough to be in the team and to perform at the level at which I can perform. There is still time, there is a third of the season left. “I don’t know what will happen in the postseason,” he stated.

He stressed that participating in the Games means adding “kilometers to these tires,” when referring to his legs, although he considered it a relief to not have to be the main leader of the team.

“I don’t know what the team will be like in the end, but I know that I don’t have the pressure of having to carry the team on my back. It will be a squad of twelve players capable of doing well both in defense and attack every day and against any team,” he assured.

At the press conference, James also expressed his pride in playing in his twentieth NBA All Star, a record in the American league.
