Lazio-Bayern (1-0): Upamecano victim of racist insults on social networks after his red card

Inadmissible messages were posted this Wednesday, February 14 after the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League between Lazio and Bayern Munich (1-0). Dayot Upamecano, author of a dangerous tackle on Gustav Isaksen, received a red card and caused a penalty, converted by Ciro Immobile (69th). The French defender was the target of racist insults on social networks.

“The racist comments published on social networks against Dayot Upamecano are absolutely unacceptable,” declared the Bavarian team on X (formerly Twitter). Bayern condemns this in the strongest possible terms. Anyone posting such a comment is not a fan of our club. We support you, Upa! »

The French international had already been the victim of such insults in April 2023, after a quarter-final lost by Bayern Munich against Manchester City (3-0). Already at the time, his club came forward to condemn these actions.

Moribund, Bayern Munich delivered an insipid performance against Lazio this Wednesday evening. The Bavarian team, despite more than 60% possession, did not target a single shot throughout the game.

The German club is going through a very bad sporting patch. Second in the Bundesliga, he received a slap against leader Bayer Leverkusen last Saturday (3-0) and was eliminated from the German Cup.
