2:1 in the series! Has the Valmyrian “Cinderella story” begun?

“Rubene” (Kocēni), the winner of the regular tournament of the ELVI floorball league for men, ended up in the role of losers with 1:2 in the first round of the playoffs, because tonight Kocēni’s team recognized the superiority of “FBK Valmiera/Betsafe” 2:4. The two goalkeepers – Agris Rogainis and Sandis Venevics – became the heroes of the match in the ranks of the winners.

The third game of the quarter-final series took place in Valmiera Olympic Center. Both teams started the match quite cautiously, but the hosts from Valmiera were a little more active in the attack. They were the ones who revealed the result of this game – Pavel Semyonov scored in the 16th minute (1:0). The first period ended with that result. In the second third, Valmiera floorball players tripled their advantage – 3:0. In the 24th minute, Arvis Kārkliņš stood out with a goal, but in the 40th minute, the captain of the home team, Mārtiņš Broks, scored his own goal. Only 33 seconds were played in the last period, when for the fourth time the Valmieri fans had reason to celebrate – 4:0, a goal scored by Ricardas Riba.

In the remaining time, “Rubene” became significantly more active. The guests had a great opportunity to erase their zero from the scoreboard already in the 44th minute, when they had to take a penalty kick. Their captain Jäkab Keish went to do that, but the Valmieri coach sent Sandi Venevic in the goal, who did not allow the result to change – 4:0. Kocenians scored the first goal only in the 53rd minute, when Matīss Celms shot accurately (1:4). In the next minute, Kocēni floorball players had another opportunity to execute a penalty kick. This time, Juris Zilberts did it, but he also failed to beat Venevic, who was replaced again. Immediately after that, the Kocēni team started to change the goalkeeper for the sixth player. Valmieri didn’t even manage to throw the ball into the empty goal of the opponents. “Rubene” played back one goal, it was scored by Dāvis Zēmelis in the 56th minute, using the numerical majority of his team. At the end of the fight, it was the only defensive error of the home team, so “FBK Valmiera/Betsafe” could celebrate the victory with 4:2, taking the lead with 2:1 for the first time in a series of four wins by one team.
