Las Vegas Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo Suspended for Violating NFL Drug Policy

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been suspended two games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

The policy violation is believed to be related to Garoppolo using a prescribed medication without having a valid therapeutic use exemption from the league.

Garoppolo will not appeal and will miss the first two games of the 2024 season.

Sources said the Raiders are expected to release Garoppolo before Day 5 of next season in mid-March, at which time he would receive an $11.25 million bonus.

The quarterback signed a three-year, $72.75 million contract with $33.75 million guaranteed with Las Vegas in March, when Josh McDaniels was the team’s head coach and Dave Ziegler was the general manager.

With Antonio Pierce now coach and Tom Telesco general manager, there is no connection or commitment to Garoppolo. The Raiders will possibly look to select a quarterback in the next draft.

Garoppolo, 32, is expected to be looking for his third team in as many seasons, having played with the San Francisco 49ers in 2022, before joining the Raiders as a free agent in 2023.
