It’s all new, all hot! The La Roche-sur-Yon racket club is opening a section of a new racket game: pickelball.

A UFO in the world of racquets which has already attracted millions of followers in the United States for many years.

The recipe is made up of three ingredients: a little tennis, because it is played with a net, a dose of ping-pong or padel, the racket used being close to the size of these two disciplines; and a badminton tip, with the surface of the court used.

Less traumatic for the body

As with all these racket sports, pickelball can be played as singles, doubles, mixed, etc. “It is especially ideal for those who want to play sport without it being traumatic for the body,” explains David Phélippeau, at the initiative of launching this new section.

From there to saying that it is a sport for the oldest, there would only be one step, but that is without taking into account the playful and, indeed, intergenerational spirit that this new genre brings to the world. world of rackets.

Still anecdotal in France, pickelball has already attracted people from Vendée, with the Gaubretière club which opened a first section in 2023.

David Phélippeau’s ambition is to offer this novelty to the Yonnais and neighbors.
