Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne: A Preview of the Belgian Cycling Season

As has been the case for years, Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne is on the international cycling calendar in the opening weekend of the Belgian cycling season after the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday the next day. Unlike last year (when after the climb of the Kasteeldreef via Sint-Maria-Oudenhove and Sint-Goriks-Oudenhove to Michelbeke), this time there will be no passage of this race on Zottegem territory (also no climb of the Berendries).

However, on Sunday February 25, the day after the real Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, cycling tourists are also allowed to ride ‘their’ Omloop, optionally over a distance of 60, 80, 125 km (each with start and finish in Ninove) or 150 km ( with start and finish in Ghent). The participants in the longest two distances will cycle through Velzeke, Sint-Goriks-Oudenhove and Sint-Maria-Oudenhove, among others. As a result, one-way traffic will apply that day from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Vossenholstraat (only permitted in the direction of Marebeekstraat), Paddestraat (in the direction of Romeins Plein), Vijfstraat (in the direction of Faliestraat) and Lammerstraat (in the direction of Lierde). A parking ban will apply on part of Sint-Martinusplein (Parochial Center side, supply post) in Velzeke.
