Teun Koopmeiners once again claimed a leading role at Atalanta on Sunday. The club from Bergamo drew 1-1 with AC Milan thanks to a goal from the Dutchman. In Spain, Real Madrid was saved thanks to Luka Modric.

Atalanta quickly fell behind 1-0 against Milan. Rafael Leão scored in the third minute. Just before half time, Koopmeiners scored the equalizer from a penalty. That was it at San Siro, where Marten de Roon was Atalanta’s captain. Hans Hateboer and Mitchel Bakker did not get playing time.

Koopmeiners has been in top form at Atalanta in recent weeks. The 25-year-old Dutch international has scored seven goals in his last six matches. A month and a half ago he already scored twice at San Siro against Milan, then in the Coppa Italia.

Partly thanks to Koopmeiners’ input, Atalanta is on an excellent run. The club last lost on December 23. Since then, Serie A has won six times and drawn twice.

After 25 games, Atalanta is number five in Italy. The deficit to number four Bologna, which has played one more game, is two points. Seven points are conceded to number three AC Milan.

Atalanta will visit Milan again on Wednesday. Leader Internazionale is then the opponent. Next Sunday the club will play an important home match against Bologna. One round later, an away match with number two Juventus awaits. In between there will also be a match against Sporting CP in the Europa League.

Real Madrid escapes thanks to Modric

In La Liga, Modric was the saving angel for Real Madrid. In the home match against Sevilla, the 38-year-old Croat came on in the final phase when the score was 0-0. Not much later he scored the winning goal with a placed shot: 1-0.

With his goal, Modric prevented Real from losing points for the third time in four competition matches. Recently they drew 1-1 against Atlético Madrid and Rayo Vallecano. In between, competitor Girona was put aside (4-0).

The match in Estadio Santiago Bernabéu was special for Sergio Ramos. The 37-year-old Sevilla defender was back in the stadium where he played for Real for years.
