Kate Foo Kune Makes Strong Start in African Badminton Championships

Kate Foo Kune took out a seed in the first round.

The individual African championships having started on Friday, yesterday was decisive in Cairo to determine the contenders for the 2024 African champion titles. In the women’s singles, Kate Foo Kune made a strong impression in her first match by eliminating the number 4 seed, Husina Kobugabe (21-14, 21-13).

In the second round, the Mauritian beat the Algerian Yasmina Chibah in straight sets (21-16, 21-12) to validate her ticket for the quarter-finals. Last night, she faced the winner of the match between Egyptian Rahma Mohamed Saad Eladawy and Nigerian Christiana Olajumoke Obasanmi.

On the other tables, the pair Lucas Douce – Khemtish Nundah (4) went directly to the quarter-final of the men’s doubles after the Zambian duo withdrew in the second round. In mixed doubles, the pair Julien Paul – Kate Foo Kune beat that of Cameroon, Paul Christ Assembe Voundi – Séraphine Merveille Avidi Meka (21-8, 21-14) to compete in their quarter-final against the Nigerians Nusa Momoh – Ramatu Yakubu.

Note that in the women’s doubles, the duo Lorna Bodha – Kobita Dookhee was eliminated in the first round by the Nigerians Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan – Sofiat Arinola Obanishola (22-20, 21-18).
