Jonathan ‘Maravilla’ Alonso, on his OnlyFans: “They criticized me a lot because they didn’t understand it”

When did you get the OnlyFans (OF) offer?

It came to me at the best time, at the beginning of 2023. I was just two months away from the fight for the WBA title in the most important stadium in Madrid, the WiZink Center. I was facing a very tough fight, I needed all the support possible to focus on that preparation and OF knocked on my door.

What did you think when they contacted you?

I knew they sponsored big names in the sport like Shakur Stevenson and many others. In Spain, when I heard that Jennifer Miranda and even Ilia Topuria had closed deals with them, I knew that I had to be there too. It is an exorbitant economic injection compared to everything else.

How has it helped you in your preparation?

From covering the costs of supplementation, food or physiotherapists, to being able to use hyperbaric chamber sessions to reduce recovery time, or covering the travel and expenses of training in other cities and with great professionals. For example, I was able to take my entire team for the first time in 17 years to the Canary Islands to train so I could do quality sparring with boxers similar to the one I was going to face. I wouldn’t have achieved all this without help, neither me nor anyone else. That’s why, for example, I took advantage of the last evening at the Callao Cinemas in Madrid to ask everyone who was there and had the possibility of doing something for another person and to help some kid who had that sparkle in their eyes of hope for get something.

Is it possible to make a living from boxing in Spain?

It is very difficult. I think I am the only person who can live with this standard of living thanks to boxing. And in fact, it is not only because of the fighting, but because of everything that I have generated around this sport. My personal brand, the sponsors, the followers, the campaigns… It couldn’t be sustained only with the money they earn in Spain for fighting. And I have done everything that can be done: I have been champion of Spain, I have been on the national team, in the Olympic Games, I have been in the United States fighting…

Did you think that collaborating with OF could close doors for you?

Not at all. I knew it was my chance to pioneer my career again. I was already the first Spaniard signed in the United States, the first to fight at the Barclays Center, etc. And I wanted to be the first sponsored by OnlyFans in Spain. I knew that once it happened, everyone would want it.

What content do you offer on your profile?

For example, I have hired a cameraman on my team and he comes to make videos that look like promotional clips of all my workouts. But I also share my car, my achievements… Even my education.

Do you receive criticism?

A lot, especially at the beginning… I remember the first fight I was dressed head to toe in OnlyFans to the official weigh-in. Those photos appeared in all the sports newspapers. Many criticized me, because they didn’t understand it. My profile didn’t fit the predefined image that many people had of what that brand was. But more and more athletes collaborate with OF. MotoGP, Formula 1, Rally, MMA, boxing… I try to do a job of normalizing it too. I go out whenever I can with merchandising t-shirts so that people get used to it, although there are still those who turn to look at you thinking: “Is this guy not ashamed or what?”
