Joel Embiid’s MVP Prospects Fading Due to Injury

No length of time has been specified for Embiid’s unavailability. But the Cameroonian should miss several weeks or even several months of competition, even if ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski clarifies that the pivot is not forfeited for the rest of the season. The Sixers said they would provide an update following surgery.

The title of MVP is definitely moving away

Before the match against Golden State, Joel Embiid had already missed two games due to knee pain. Then, against the Warriors, he was the victim of a clash with Jonathan Kuminga, the strong winger of the Californian franchise.

The 76ers pivot is currently the best NBA scorer with an average of 35.3 points per game, ahead of Luka Doncic (Dallas) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City). He also has 11.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists.

With already 14 matches not played since the start of the season and this long unavailability to come, Joel Embiid, acclaimed in 2023, definitively sees the prospect of being named MVP of the regular season disappear this year, since only the Players who have played a minimum of 65 matches are now eligible.
