Jean-Pierre Rivère (Nice): “I would like Clément Turpin to explain himself but he is untouchable”

Beaten in Lyon (0-1) on Friday, Nice was unhappy with the refereeing of Clément Turpin, who refused to speak after the match. President Jean-Pierre Rivère, on the other hand, intervened on the Prime Video set. And he didn’t mince his words: “Being a referee is very difficult and it’s normal to make mistakes. If I took a whistle, I would too. But at some point it adds up. That’s several matches with refereeing errors even though there is VAR. So what is it for? It’s no longer possible, it’s accumulating… Last weekend against Monaco (2-3), Mr. Turpin was the VAR referee and it was he who had Dante sent off when the central referee had not no fault reported. Tonight (Friday evening), I don’t understand.

We’re not bad losers but at some point we have to say stop. We put the VAR in place, we are the ones who finance it for a little more justice but, if it is of no use, we will have to ask ourselves some good questions. When we look at the replays, there are at least two penalties. First, (Duje) Caleta-Car’s nudge on (Evann) Guessand. And then, the fault of (Nicolas) Tagliafico on (Jordan) Lotomba.

At some point, he has to question himself. I do not understand anything anymore. It’s bad not even being able to talk to a referee after a match, we are also players in the game. He says to me: “Don’t touch me! Don’t point the finger at me!” I would like him to explain, but he is untouchable. At some point, he (Turpin) has to come back down. The stakes are high. When I saw that he was officiating this evening (Friday evening), I said to myself: “Ouch ouch ouch.” »
