Jason Filbeck Appointed as New Head Football Coach at Topeka High

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Topeka High has found its new head football coach in Jason Filbeck.

Filbeck comes to the Trojans after spending 10 seasons as the head coach at Augusta (4A). He led the Orioles to a 45-51 overall record, including a 7-3 season and two 6-4 campaigns. The program finished the 2023 season at 2-7. Six of his ten seasons posted above .500 records.

The Liberty, Mo. native played wide receiver at Baker University before beginning his coaching career, which started with some assistant positions at the middle school level in the Blue Valley district, and a decade as an assistant at Shawnee Mission East.

The Trojan football program has struggled in the past few years, posting a 6-27 overall record under previous head coach Carlos Kelly, including two back-to-back 1-8 seasons with first round playoff exits.

Kelly resigned from the football program on November 19th, and the school has been searching for a new leader ever since.

Filbeck wasn’t dissuaded by the recent woes of the program, and accepted the position on Thursday. He met with the team for the first time Friday morning, according to TopSports.news.
