At the European Indoor Championships in Varazdin, Croatia, Italy took center stage by winning a total of 22 individual and team finals. The trios will compete for the medals tomorrow, with races in live streaming. Saturday ends with the matches for the individual podiums which will see 13 Italians on the firing line.
At the European Indoor Championships in Varazdin, Croatia, Italy dominates far and wide. In the morning, thirteen Italians reached the final in the individual competitions, while in the afternoon the teams took center stage, obtaining ten places in the medal-winning challenges. The trios will be on the pitch tomorrow, while Saturday on the last day of the competition will be the day of the individual finals. The competitions will be broadcast live on the World Archery Europe Youtube channel.
THE RESULTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL OLIMPICO – In the men’s recurve, Mauro Nespoli flies to the gold medal and will face the Israeli Itay Shanny after beating the Ukrainians Ruban and Usach 6-2 and 7-3. Usach himself will be Alessandro Paoli’s opponent in the bronze medal match after the 6-4 success over the Croatian Gradiscak and the 6-4 knockout with Shanny.
Same result in the women’s where Tatiana Andreoli is in the final for gold against the Ukrainian Pavlova and Lucilla Boari will compete for the bronze against the Slovakian Barankova. For Andreoli in the previous rounds a 6-4 victory over her partner Chiara Rebagliati and 6-2 over Barankova; for Boari 6-4 against the Ukrainian Hynp and a 2-6 defeat against Pavlova.
Among the Juniors, Ginevra Landi is in the final for the bronze after the thrilling victory with the Moldavian Berzan, the match is decided after two playoff arrows both on 10 but the Italian’s one is closer to the center for 6-5 (10, 10-10.10*) final. Now Landi will challenge the Ukrainian Doval after losing the semi-final with the other Ukrainian Chernyk 6-2. Chiara Compagno and Emiliano Rampon instead stop in the quarterfinals with Koval 7-1 and in the shoot-off 6-5 (10-10*) with Medveczky (SVK).
THE RESULTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL COMPOUND – Final for the all-blue gold in the women’s compound between Andrea Nicole Moccia, capable of eliminating the British Ella Gibson with two shoot-offs 146-146 (10-9) and 145-145 (10-10*) and her partner Marcella Tonioli, and Elisa Roner who beat the British Chapell 148-142 and the Croatian Mlinaric 144-142. Michea Godano’s run ends in the quarterfinals, defeated by the Danish Damsbo 149-147 and also that of the Italians. Lorenzo Gubbini loses 144-147 to the Turkish Sezgin, Andrea Marchetti 146-145 to the Ukrainian Vdovenko, Giulia Di Nardo 143-146 to the Turkish Burun and Martina Serafini 144-142 to the French Girault.
THE RESULTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL BARE BOW – There are six Italian finalists in the bare bow: Giuseppe Seimandi will compete for gold against the Slovenian Dolard after defeating the Swede Petterson 6-5 (10-9) in the shoot-off and 6-2 teammate Simone Barbieri who will instead challenge Jonsson (SWE) for the bronze after beating the Bulgarian Bakov 7-3 in the quarterfinals. Valter Basteri leaves the scene instead, defeated by Dolar (SLO) 7-3.
In the women’s competition Cinzia Noziglia wins the semi-final match against the other Italian Fabia Rovatti 6-0 and deserves a place in the final for gold with the San Marino archer Pruccoli, while her partner will shoot for the bronze with the French Andre . In the quarterfinals they both won 6-0 with Mogos (ROU) and Hubbard (GBR).
Double final for the Juniors with Giulio Locchi against the Swede Rohlin for gold after beating the Icelandic Arnason 6-4, bronze final for Viola Menna ready for the match with the British Finnegan after having first defeated 6-5 ( 9-8) the Bulgarian Dimitrova and then lost in the semi-final to the Icelandic Hauksdottir.
TEAM RESULTS – Double final for gold for the Olympic teams: Paoli, Nespoli and Borsani after the double 6-0 against Iceland and Croatia will challenge Ukraine (Kozhokar, Ruban, Usach); in the women’s game Rebagliati, Boari and Andreoli beat Moldova 6-0 and will face Ukraine (Hnyp, Pavlova, Tretiakova).
Among the Juniors, Pernice, Alfano and Rampon win a place in the bronze final and will face Belgium (Collas, Stinkens, Van Dun) after winning the match against Croatia 6-0 and losing the match against Ukraine 5-1. Instead it will be the final for gold for Landi, Compagno and Mosna who beat Moldova 6-2 and await Ukraine (Chebotarenko, Chernyk, Koval) for the match that will win the European title.
In the compound Godano, Bruno and Della Stua will challenge Portugal (Alves, Da Silva Carvalho, Pereira Baptista) for the bronze after losing in the semi-final in the shoot-off 235-235 (30-28) to Croatia. The women, Roner, Tonioli and Moccia, after qualifying had already secured the pass for the gold final where they will face Great Britain (Gibson, Chappell, Wood).
Among the Juniors, Aloisi, Gubbini and Marchetti earned the final for the gold against Croatia (Curic, Pavicevic, Srebren) after the 235-227 success against Romania. It will be a challenge for the bronze for the Juniors Del Duca, Di Nardo, Serafini against Croatia (Arapovich, Drobnjak, Medimurec) after the knockout against Great Britain 229-228.
In the bare bow both teams fly to the final for gold: the men, Seimandi, Basteri, Barbieri, win 6-0 against Iceland and will face Croatia (Curic, Marosevic, Velagic). Noziglia, Rovatti and Bigogno on the women’s side will face Romania (Bacin, Mogos, Topliceanu) after the 6-0 success against Iceland.
