Italian Specialist Paolo Nicolato Confirmed as Head Coach of Latvian National Men’s Football Team

It has already been reported that Italian specialist Paolo Nicolato was confirmed as the head coach of the Latvian national men’s football team on Monday after long discussions.

“The choice was not easy, we had to choose from a lot of really good specialists,” LFF quotes Lashenko as saying. “During the process of searching for a coach, we made sure that the position of head coach of the Latvian national team is interesting and tempting for high caliber specialists.”

As is known, among the four previously named candidates for the vacant position were also the Lithuanian Valds Dambrausks, the Swede Janne Andešssons and the Pole Mareks Papšuns.

The contract with the 57-year-old Nikolato is concluded for two years, but the first matches under his leadership will be played by the Latvian national team in March, when they will meet Cyprus and Liechtenstein in test matches.

According to the president of the LFF, during the negotiations, Nicolato left the impression of a very strong personality who knows his trade. “He is knowledgeable in the tactical nuances of football, very convincing in communication and self-presentation,” reveals Lashenko. “It was very important for us that the coach can live in Latvia all the time, not just episodic. I am sure that we have made the right choice, and the investment of this specialist in Latvian football will be permanent.”
